2016 Hurricane Season

2016 Hurricane SeasonHurricane season is upon once again and runs from June 1 – November 30 and this year NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is anticipating a near-normal season.

They are currently predicting:

  • 70 percent likelihood of 10 to 16 named storms
  • 4 to 8 of these could become hurricanes (74 mph or higher) with possibly 1 to 4 major hurricanes (111 mph or higher)
  • 30 percent chance of an above-normal season
  • 25 percent chance of a below-normal season

Bearing in mind that the past 3 hurricane seasons have been below normal, there is potential to see more activity this year than the past 3 years.

For storms that do form this year, the following names will be used
