Puerto Rico Events March 2012Music lovers and sports fans will be spoiled for choice here in Puerto Rico during March. Salsa, Jazz and Classical provide the music thanks to Día Nacional de la Salsa (National Salsa Day), the Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest and the continuation of the Casals Festival. Sports fans can get their fix at the Puerto Rican PGA Open which tees off at the Trump International or at the Iron Man San Juan Triathlon. If all that’s too much for you, then you can take it easy at the annual Taste of Rum Festival in Old San Juan

Casals Festival (until Mar 17)

The Casals Festival started back in 1956 by famous cellist, conductor and composer Pablo Casals and each year it brings some of the best talent from the world of Classical music to the island of Puerto Rico.

Scheduled to appear during March are: Valentina Lisitsa (pianist), Malandai Ballet Biarritz, Jordi Savall, the Orquesta Sinfonica de Puerto Rico and more.

Puerto Rico PGA Open (Mar 8 – 12)

The PGA Tours returns to the Trump International Golf Course in Rio Grande for this years Puerto Rico Open. Along with Puerto Rico’s very own Max Alverto and Rafa Campos, you are likely to see Angel Cabrera, Michael Bradley and Kenny Perry battling the greens and bunkers.

It’s not all golf with events taking place starting on Sunday March 4 with the 5Km for Life race, Pro Am tournaments, kids day on March 8 and Ladies Day on March 9.

Taste of Rum Festival Mar 24 – 25

This two day event takes place around Paseo de la Princesa in Old San Juan and features some of the best rums that Puerto Rico has to offer as well as rums from around the Caribbean and the world.

Along with tastings, there will be seminars, rum competitions, music and not forgetting food from some of the islands top restaurants.

Domes beach in Rincon is the setting for this 2 star professional surfing competition. The event should feature local surfers; Brian Toth, Tommy Bursian , Alejandro Moreda and Wilfredo “Control” Deliz
