From Tomorrow Thursday March 1 until Sunday March 4, the city of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico will be celebrating its annual Carnaval Mabo. This is the 27th year of the carnival and it celebrates the Indian chieftain Mabo. There will be music, dance, shows, artist exhibits and food kiosks. The celebrations are closed with the colorful Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine).Â
Some of the artists and groups expected to be entertaining during the carnival are; VÃctor Manuelle, Milly Quezada, El Conjunto Quisqueya, La India, la Orquesta de Oscar de Leon, la Orquesta de Tommy Olivencia, la Orquesta Fuera de Liga, Plenéalo and more.
The carnival is being held close to the coliseo Mario “Quijote” Morales at Tablado del RÃo (the same area as the Guaynabo Christmas carnival). To get there take route 20 from San Juan (about 15-20mins depending on traffic) and exit at Route 199 and follow the signs for Guaynabo City center. You will be able to see the rides (which were being erected today) as you head towards the center.
On Friday, there will be a parade and on Saturday there will be a cook-off between professional chefs of the area and there will be lots of local food to check out. Sunday will see the final parade, which concludes with the colorful Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine).
This should be a great chance to see a large local carnival, full of the sights, sounds and tastes that make up this island. It should be very colorful, loud and entertaining.
