Culebrita Closed for Cleaning Until Jan 23 2009

culebrita
The tiny island of Culebrita (not to be confused with Culebra) will be closed until Jan 23, 2009 to allow contractors to sweep the beaches for buried ammunition. The contractors have been hired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to check the natural reserve for the remains of ammunition from bombing practices between 1930 – 1975.

If you had planned a trip over to Culebrita to hit the beaches, hike, dive or snorkel during this time period, you will have to re-think your plans. There is still plenty of fun things to do on Culebra

Hopefully Culebrita will re-open to the public on Jan 23, 2009
