If fishing is your sport then Puerto Rico has you covered. The deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea provide good fishing all year round with the winter season between October – March providing the best fishing.
Deep Sea Fishing Charters can be found at the various marinas around the island with operators offering both a half day and full day of fishing.
Due to the depth of the ocean floor around Puerto Rico you will not have to travel too far to start your fishing.
From San Juan the ocean floor drops to around 600 feet just a mile off the coast and the famous 500 mile Puerto Rico Trench which goes to a depth of 28,000 feet lies around 75 miles north of San Juan.
On the south east coast the Continental Shelf is about 5 – 12 miles from the coast with depths of between 200 – 2000 feet and The Sea Mounts with depths of between 200 – 4000 feet are located around 17 miles from shore.
For those that prefer inland or light sport fishing there are several operators offering half-day and full-day fishing trips.
Typical Catches
Depending on the time of year, you can expect to fish for: Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Yellow Fin Tuna, Sailfish, Wahoo and Tarpon for those looking at inland or light sport fishing
