The mountain town of Jayuya will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Festival Nacional Indígena on November 15-17, 2019. The weekend long festival organized by the Jayuyano Cultural Center will takes place in the towns Plaza Publica Nemesio R. Canales..
The theme for the 50th edition is Taino Deities: Ancestral Legacy and the festival will feature picturesque kiosks of typical food that are decorated with natural elements such as leaves, stones, seeds, wood, and sack. Local artisans will be showcasing their works and there will be live entertainment and family activities.
Festival Nacional Indígena de Jayuya will begin on Friday November 15 with Encendido del Fuego Taino (Taino Fire Lighting) at 7pm followed by the festival dedications and music by Tony Cruz and Grupo Jakara
On Saturday the festival will open at 10am with the artisan fair and music during the day from la banda indígena “Danzantes de la Tierra Alta” y, la Tuna Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico and Bajo la luna
On Sunday the festival will open at 10am with the artisan fair and music during the day from Grupo de Baile folclórico Citlalli de México, la banda indígena “Danzantes de la Tierra Alta” and Roy Brown.
