Ahead of the 2019 Hurricane Season, NOAA and the U.S. Air Force Reserve will host a series of events around Mexico and the Caribbean.
The Puerto Rico Event will take place on April 13, from 10am. to 5pm, at the Rafael Hernández Airport, Aguadilla
On April 13 NOAA and the U.S. Air Force Reserve will be here in Puerto Rico and visitors will be able to tour one of the Reserve Command’s WC-130J “Hurricane Hunter”. Along with the Hurricane Hunter the NOAA WP-3D aircraft, used for both hurricane forecasting and research, will also be on display.
In addition to the aircraft National Hurricane Center director Ken Graham and federal hurricane specialists will visit residents of vulnerable communities to discuss hurricane preparedness and how they can become “weather-ready.
NOAA and the U.S. Air Force Reserve Aircraft Background
As hurricane develop military aircraft such as the WC-130J “Hurricane Hunter” and NOAA WP-3D fly directly into the core of the tropical storm to gather data that is vital for forcasting the hurricanes strength and potential landfall. The data is sent from the planes to NOAA’s National Hurricane Center to be used in the latest forecast updates.
