The town of Rincon will be holding the inaugural Rincon International Film Festival between April 22 – 26, 2008. It may not have the same prestige as the Sundance Festival, but the organizers hope to make this an annual event, here in Puerto Rico.
The event is the brainchild of a team of film makers from Los Angeles and the owners of the Lazy Parrot in Rincon. According to Festival Director, Dave Johnson
“The films run the gamut of genres including drama, comedy, animation, student films, surfing films, music videos, horror films, and documentaries. Some of the films have Puerto Rican or Caribbean themes or filmmakers. All of the films will be showing in Puerto Rico for the first time, and some of them will be World Premieres.â€
So far the organizers have received close to 300 submissions from around the world and they hope to screen approximately 20 feature length films and around 40 short films of various genres.
One of the films definitely on the list is “One California Day” a film about surf culture and tradition. Co-directed by Jason Baffa (Single Fin Yellow) and Mark Jeremias (DRIVE), the film depicts “a visual journey through six distinct coastal regions, capturing the California surfing experience through the surfers who live it”.
